Jolimont-based construction company Cooper & Oxley has won a $36.7 million contract from the state government to build the second stage of the new Byford Secondary College.

Work on stage 2 includes an extension to the technology and enterprise block, a new arts learning area, an education support learning community centre, a sports hall and general learning blocks.

The school initially accommodated up to 375 high school students when it opened its doors at the start of the 2014 school year, but it will cater for up to 150 year seven students when school starts in February.

The school will have the capacity to accommodate up to 900 students when stage 2 is completed at the end of 2016.

PS Structures was awarded a $28.8 million contract for the first phase of construction works at the school in 2012.
