Cooper & Oxley Builders has won a contract worth more than $14 million to build the Osborne Park Hospital surgical centre development and outpatient department.

Cooper & Oxley was one of three businesses that tendered for the Department of Health contract worth more than $14.5 million.

The total budget for the build is $22.4 million and construction is due to start 9 August, with practical completion scheduled for November 2014.

A department of finance spokesperson said Cooper and Oxley presented the best value for money outcome for the government.

Recent projects the builder has also won contracts for include the Cockburn Gateway Shopping City stage three redevelopment with a contract value of $80 million, and the Roebourne Regional camp with a contract value of $13 million.

It has taken on four new staff, including a project manager, two contract administrators and a site manager since winning the contracts.

The Cockburn Gateway Shopping City is due to be completed in November 2014 and is an expansion of the current shopping centre being developed by Perron Investments and designed by architects Buchan Group.

The Roebourne Regional camp is a new facility next to the Roebourne regional prison, commissioned by the state government and designed by architects Cox Howlett & Bailey. It is due to be completed in December.

Cooper & Oxley is also due to start work extending and refurbishing the Lucky Shag, after winning the tender for redeveloping the bar on Barrack Street Jetty.
