Local companies have shared in $35.6 million worth of construction and building contracts for work around the state, including the Perth-based civil and mining division of Watpac Group, which has won a $7.1 million contract for road upgrades at Kalbarri National Park.

Watpac Civil & Mining will upgrade the Loop-Z Bend access road and expand the car park at the national park, with the scope of work including clearing, earthworks, drainage, asphalt surfacing, rehabilitation of sand borrow and gravel basecourse pits, and installation of signs and other car park items.

The work forms the second stage of upgrades at Kalbarri National Park, after the state government invested $7.7 million for new facilities at the park in 2014.

Meanwhile, The Housing Authority has awarded a $12.5 million contract to Ricon for the construction of the 100-bed Broome Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation Facility.

The BASSA project comes after the 2014 opening of the 54-bed DASSA facility in Derby, which was built by Cooper & Oxley.

Five contracts worth a total of $16 million have been awarded for upgrades to regional health services as part of the Southern Inland Health Initiative.

BGC Construction won two of these – a $6.1 million contract for the construction of the Pingelly Health Centre and a $2.5 million contract for the refurbishment of the Beverley Health Service.

Adco Constructions received a $3 million contract for the refurbishment of the York Health Service, while FIRM Construction and Devlyn Constructions won a $2.7 million and a $1.7 million contract for the refurbishment of the Moora and Southern Cross health services respectively.
