Clough deal

CLOUGH Engineering has won a $30 million three-year mining contract for its part-owned Wannaway nickel mine near Kambalda in WA’s eastern goldfields.

Wannaway was acquired last month by the Miitel joint venture (Mincor 76 per cent, Clough Mining and Donegal Resources each 12 per cent).

The struck deal follows some months after Clough was granted a $45 million four-year contract mining deal for the joint venture’s first project at the Miitel-Mariners block nickel mine, 30 kilometres west of the Wannaway site.

Both the mines previously had been owned by WMC Resources but were mothballed and then offered for sale as part of an asset rationalisation program.

The deals also ensured Clough’s mining contractor division was kept employed following the closure of Newcrest’s Telfer mine, which Clough had a contract to mine.
