Civmec wins FMG contract

Civmec has announced $120 million of new work, led by a contract to build and instal the primary crushing and ore processing facility at Fortescue Metals Group’s Eliwana iron ore mine.

In an announcement released late on Tuesday, the Henderson-based contractor said the package will provide employment for 300 people, at its heavy engineering facility and on-site in the Pilbara.

The work will commence later this year and last approximately 12 months.

It includes fabrication, delivery and installation of the loading, crushing, screening and associated conveyor systems.

Civmec said it has also recently won contracts in its maintenance division and subsea fabrication work for the oil & gas sector.

Combined with Eliwana, it has won $120 million of new work since July 1.

This lifted its order book to $850 million, up slightly from $820 million at March 31, when it last reported this figure.

Chief executive Pat Tallon said Civmec had worked extensively with Fortescue to secure the latest award.

“This is a great start to FY2020 and we look forward to the year ahead,” Mr Tallon said.

This news follows two big contract wins earlier this year, for Albemarle’s lithium refinery at Kemerton and BHP’s South Flank iron ore mine.
