Civmec South Flank contract to create 80 jobs

Civmec has secured fabrication and assembly works at BHP Group’s South Flank iron ore project in the Pilbara, taking its total won at the project to $48 million.

Under the contract, which will commence immediately, Civmec will assemble 23 smart modules at a facility in Henderson.

The smart modules will then be transported to South Flank for onsite installation by the contractor.

In a statement, Civmec said the works are anticipated to be complete by mid-2020 and may provide an estimated 80 jobs in Perth.

Earlier this month, Monadelphous and Clough also acquired contracts at the $4.6 billion iron ore development.

Civmec previously won two fabrication and assembly contracts at South Flank in December and January, via thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions Australia.

Thyssenkrup was awarded a $250 million contract to design, supply, construct and commission the large-scale stockyard machines at South Flank.

Civmec chief executive officer Pat Tallon said the award of this scope of work complements the packages already in production for thyssenKrupp.

“We are extremely pleased to be given this opportunity to further support BHP in the delivery of what will ultimately become its flagship mine,” Mr Tallon said.

Shares in Civmec were up 5.3 per cent to 50 cents each at 11.50amAEDT.
