The City Of Perth has moved to encourage more inner-city residential development, passing an amendment to its planning schemes to allow for more dense development.
The council endorsed an amendment to increase the maximum plot ratio across large parts of the city at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night.
The plot ratio of a site determines the maximum amount of floorspace allowed for a development.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the amendment would cater for an increased residential population and also provide business and tourism opportunities.
“By expanding the eligibility for and extent of bonus plot ratio, residential, hotel and short-term accommodation projects will become more attractive and viable,” Ms Scaffidi said.
The amendment will now be forwarded to the Department of Planning, for final approval from Planning Minister John Day.
