BY using her head, or more accurately the hair upon it, and submitting to having it shaved twice, Crown prosecutor Patti Chong has raised $105,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Ms Chong, whose wild hair has become a trademark over her years with the Department of Public Prosecutions, decided to raise money for the foundation after hearing about the shave for a cure while driving to work.
With the shave day approaching and still well short of her $5,000 target, she turned to Bullion Gold chairman and Grimwood Davies managing director Tim Goyder for help.
Mr Goyder had been the foundation’s leading fundraiser the year before with a total of $45,000. With his help and his contacts Ms Chong bested his 2003 mark less than one week after the shave.
Last month, with the Leukaemia Ball afoot and her hair restored to its former glory Ms Chong had $75,000. An impromptu auction on the night raised $25,000 and arranged another date with the clippers.
