Chocolate cafe into liquidation

The Perth-based Guylian Belgian Chocolate Cafe franchise has been placed into liquidation, just over a year after the business opened on St Georges Terrace.

KordaMentha partner John Bumbak was appointed as liquidator this morning and said the business had struggled to bring in customers in the CBD.

“The franchise had been operating for over a year but found that their business model wasn’t viable in the current environment of low foot-traffic in the CBD, particularly evenings and weekends,” he said.

“The fitout of the premises was finished to a high quality, and we’ll run a process to see value returned from that.”

The franchise opened in May last year and specialised in Belgian chocolate dessert and drink options.

There are six other franchises located throughout Australia, all in NSW.

Guylian is a chocolate manufacturer that was established in 1958 in Belgium by Guy Foubert.
