Chevron wins new gas acreage

Chevron has been granted the rights to explore for gas over two new permit areas in the Carnarvon Basin.

Chevron will be the operator and hold 100 per cent interests in the permit areas WA-455-P and WA-456-P, which are located in the Barrow sub-basin.

The Carnarvon Basin includes the North West Shelf and Greater Gorgon areas.

Chevron Australia managing director Roy Krzywosinski said the successful bid was evidence of the company's intention to continue to pursue growth opportunities.

Chevron plans an initial three-year work program, including undertaking seismic geotechnical studies and the drilling of three exploration wells.

"We plan to use Chevron's leading edge technology and extensive deepwater project experience to deliver value and safe practices," Mr Kryzwosinski said.
