Ch10 lease bid

CHANNEL 10 could lease parts of its 4.5ha Dianella site for more efficient use of the surburban property, rather than moving to new premises.

Network 10 Perth general manager, Kel Robards, said he was investigating options to maximise the performance of Channel 10’s existing premises by eventually leasing part of the space.

Mr Robards said several suitable sites closer to Perth were seriously considered as new premises but the cost of moving and installing power systems, towers and generators in the current economic climate made the move unfeasible.

Network 10 Perth’s management had considered capitalising on its Cottonwood Crescent site as land values in the area escalate upwards from $180,000. Among the proposals considered was a move to Perth’s $310 million Convention Centre, if the Nexus consortium’s Wellington Street tender had won, and the new media village in East Perth.

“We have decided to stay and upgrade our existing building which is only 12 months old,” Mr Robards said.

Channel 10 occupies about 2000sqm of the 5000sqm building. Board permission is being sought to lease the remaining 1500sqm and studio space. WIN Television lease 500sqm and Barron Films lease studio facilities.

“We need to make internal changes first,” Mr Robards said.
