Centre given US$5m boost

CURTIN university has received US$5 million industry support for a new international study and training centre for the oil and gas industry.

Industry giant Schlumberger has provided funding to the International Training Centre for Integrated Reservoir Studies.

GeoQuest, a product line of Schlumberger, is donating reservoir simulation and oilfield production management software and hardware for the centre and also providing a $75,000 student scholarship.

The centre will be used for the training of Schlumberger staff and Curtin students. However, there may be some opportunities to use the centre’s equipment commercially.

A key objective of the centre is to help the industry meet the growing challenges of recovering hydrocarbons in the most efficient manner, giving priority to safety and protection of the environment.
