Caterer well-regarded in awards

BUNBURY-based Leonie’s Catering Service has been nominated five times in seven categories at the Restaurant and Caterers Industry Association of WA’s Awards.

The mother and daughter team echoed their success in last year’s awards. The company was nominated for special event catering, off-site food services, off-site full-service catering and function chef of the year.

It was actually nominated twice for the special event catering category, with Leonie’s buffet chef competing against renowned companies such as Big Belly Bus Caterers and Beaumonts.

Manager Leonie Kershaw said she had been involved in catering for 35 years and opened up the first hot bread shop in Bunbury.

“While we mainly do corporate events, we also cater to private functions and are often asked to set up on a cliffside or somewhere equally exotic,” Ms Kershaw said.

Ms Kershaw said Bunbury should have its own large-scale dedicated convention centre.

“I’ve been to Las Vegas and they hold all their conventions in Orange County,” she said. “Executives want to get out of the city. Bunbury has a perfect spread of attractions and activities. A plane can be here in half an hour.”
