Tony Caravella is to take on a new role, as director of the State Records Office.
Mr Caravella, who has been state director of the National Archives of Australia since October 1999, has 16 years' experience in Commonwealth public sector senior management positions.
In 2002, Mr Caravella was awarded the Australian Society of Archivists Mander Jones award, for the best article about archives written by an Australian.
He has also been awarded the Women Justices’ Association Prize in Human Rights Law.
Mr Caravella has Bachelors degrees in commerce and law, and a Post Graduate qualification in public sector management.
He is currently completing a Masters in Law on public information access law.
Mr Caravella is replacing Chris Coggin, who retired from the public sector late last year.
