MORE than 200 jobs and $3.5 million in investment in the northern suburb of Joondalup is expected as a result of Stellar Call Centres setting up a major facility in WA.
Stellar is a joint venture between Telstra and US-based Excell Global Services which plans to set up a 175-seat call centre in Joondalup.
Landcorp will give up its Joondalup head-quarters as it is the only building there deemed suitable for Stellar’s needs.
The majority of Landcorp’s fifty staff will be relocated to the Perth CBD.
The WA Government has offered Stellar a $1.35 million conditional grant, secured by a bank guarantee, on a five-year agreement detailing specified performance milestones relating to location, employment and investment in the centre.
The call centre industry already employs more than 60,000 people in Australia.
According to a new Call Centre Research study, the call centre industry is worth $6.5 billion – the market is much bigger than was initially thought.
Investment in the industry, currently estimated at $2.5 billion, is growing at the rate of 25 per cent a year.
