Chartered Secretaries Australia will become the Governance Institute of Australia, with members overwhelmingly backing the rebrand at a general meeting last week.
The group was founded as a professional organization for company secretaries but has since attracted a wide range of professionals, including risk managers, governance advisers, legal practitioners and directors.
CSA chief executive Tim Sheehy said the name change would better reflect the group’s broad focus, with only around 14 per cent of CSA members dedicated solely to company secretarial practice.
“Importantly, the DNA of the organization will remain the same – an independent voice widely respected by regulators and the broader community and the premier education qualification in governance,” Mr Sheehy said.
“But we now represent a much broader church of professionals and our new name Governance Institute of Australia captures this.”
The rebrand will be rolled out over the coming months, with all new signage set to be completed by February 2014.
