Australia’s chief executives have listed digital transformation as their top concern heading into a new decade, according to KMPG’s annual survey of nearly 200 c-suite executives.

The survey, entitled Keeping Us up at Night: The Big Issues Facing Business Leaders, found international political uncertainty, climate change, leadership stability and workforce upskilling were now in the top 10 list of concerns for Australia’s chief executives.

Regulation, disruption, public trust, customer-centricity and domestic politics rounded out the list.

KPMG chief executive Gary Wingrove said the results were not surprising, given how disruption and digital transformation are closely related.

“This indicates that Australian CEOs are acutely aware of the need to reimagine their organisation for the digital era, while harnessing new technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence,” he said.

“C-level executives in business and government are also concerned about the effective delivery of large transformation projects.

“They may run large legacy organisations, with hundreds of products or services and find that untangling established processes, systems and mindsets, while profoundly necessary, can be extremely challenging.”
