CCI calls for tax changes

THE Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA has called for a reduction in the state’s payroll tax rate to the level charged by Queensland, and for the abolition of stamp duty on mortgages, rental transactions and business intangibles. The chamber’s submission to the State Tax Review said the State Government had the financial capacity to deliver the changes and also had an obligation under the GST agreement with the Federal Government to scrap the remaining duties. It said WA should also follow the lead of most other states and abolish stamp duty on certain business conveyances.
