Perth-based grain handler The CBH Group has welcomed the passing of the federal government's export wheat marketing bill which will provide more choice to the state's wheat growers.
The group said the changes which allow accredited organisations to export wheat from Australia freely for the first time since 1939 will bring much needed competition and transparency to the Australian export wheat industry.
CBH Group CEO, Imre Mencshelyi welcomed the Federal Government's move to introduce changes, saying it provided much needed certainty for the industry and brought increased choice to Western Australian growers who would now be able to supply wheat direct to their flour mills in Asia, via a supply chain owned by those same growers.
"We have always supported a wheat marketing system that provides growers with greater choice," he said.
"These changes will bring a wider range of marketing options to Western Australian wheat growers who rely on the export market for the majority of their income."
Mr Mencshelyi said the CBH Group will continue supporting growers in the new marketing environment, ensuring they receive maximum value for their grain.
"CBH has a proud 75-year history of partnership with Western Australian grain growers and we will continue to support growers in the changing environment, positioning them for a strong and vibrant future," he said.
"With a number of customers, including our Asian flour mills, ready to buy wheat from us this year, we will be competing strongly in the market in order to meet those customer demands and ensure strong returns for growers.
"We have been positioning ourselves for this change for many years and the CBH Group is looking forward to further strengthening its unique link between Western Australian growers and its customers."
