Buru Energy has been cleared of any wrongdoing related to disturbance of Aboriginal heritage sites in the Canning Basin.
The company was under investigation by the Department of Aboriginal Affairs after it was alleged seismic surveys of Buru’s Ungani oil field were breaching the Aboriginal Heritage Act.
An investigation by the department found no evidence of disturbances to any heritage site by Buru or any of its contractors.
Buru voluntarily stopped the 3D seismic survey when the allegations were made a year ago and restarted in July.
The company said its field studies in the Canning Basin, which it has been undertaking for five years, were conducted following extensive consultation and heritage surveys with Traditional Owners to ensure that sites or areas of significance were not put at risk.
