New vehicle sales in Western Australia are up 18.7 per cent for 2021 with SUVs taking a majority chunk of the market.

New data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries revealed 106,134 vehicles were sold during 2021 in the state compared to 89,434 in the prior year.

Of this total, 52,642 vehicles sold were SUVs with sales in the segment higher by 18.2 per cent than the previous year.

Toyota was the bestselling car by brand in WA for 2021 with sales totaling 27,245, taking close to 25.7 per cent of the market share in the state.

This was followed by Mitsubishi with 9,198 vehicles and 8.7 per cent market share.

Meanwhile at the upper end of the market, there were 12 Aston Martins sold during the year, 25 Ferraris, 48 Maseratis and seven Rolls Royce’.

Petrol SUVs held the largest market share by fuel type with 35,294 sales.

WA had the fourth largest number of vehicle sales nationally, with New South Wales taking the top spot with 328,185.
