Master Builders Association of Western Australia
WE condemn the union-inspired one-day stoppage as being completely irresponsible and ill conceived.
The Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union leaders are politicising safety for their own objectives and using it as an industrial weapon against Consumer and Employment Protection Minister John Kobelke.
Unfortunately this is a typically old fashioned approach by the current CFMEU leadership to force their demands upon government which is proving extremely costly to the building industry.
The stoppage disrupted about 25 major commercial sites around Perth and once again the CFMEU has tarnished the image of our industry.
It is another reason to introduce secret ballots and tighten up ‘right of entry’ laws in the building industry.
If the CFMEU is serious about improving safety standards, they should support the MBA’s call on WorkSafe to make safety inductions compulsory in the building industry.
