The state government is seeking a builder to construct the first multi-storey car park at a metropolitan area train station, in Edgewater.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder launched the tender process today, for a $46.5 million design and construct contract.

Mr Nalder said the car park would add more than 500 new bays at Edgewater, taking its capacity to around 1,360.

Construction is scheduled to begin late next year and completed in 2016.

It is estimated around 1,900 passengers catch the train at Edgewater Station each day.
