THE Brookdale waste treatment plant will close on schedule by December 31 after the State Government brokered a deal to transport septage waste to regional treatment plants.
The Government had considered the possibility of keeping Brookdale open until next March, when the Water Corporation is due to complete a $7 million treatment plant at Woodman Point.
“We have listened to the concerns of the local community and have been mindful of our earlier commitment to close Brookdale by the end of this year,” Environment Minister Judy Edwards said.
“As a result, the Water Corporation has managed to negotiate a solution that will see septic and grease trap waste diverted to regional treatment plants for two months without unreasonable transport costs.”
