Brisbane lockdown ends, hard border remains
During a press conference on Monday, Mr McGowan told reporters that the lockdown was a difficult, but necessary decision.

Brisbane’s three-day lockdown was lifted this morning after Queensland recorded just one new case of community transmission of COVID-19, but for now Western Australia’s hard border with the state remains in place.

This morning, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the state would be relaxing its stay-at-home restrictions before Easter as a result of high testing rates and a lack of community transmission.

However, several restrictions are expected to remain in place for the state for the next fortnight, with Queenslanders required to wear masks indoors, keep gatherings to 30 people, and restrict visits to hospitals, aged care and disability facilities and prisons.

The restrictions were implemented by the Queensland government on Monday in a bid to contain two clusters linked to health care workers with the highly contagious UK variant of the virus.

On Monday afternoon, following a meeting of WA's Emergency Management Committee, the state government reintroduced its hard border with Queensland.

Premier Mark McGowan announced that WA would transition from low to medium risk, banning Queensland travellers without an exemption from entering WA.

In the past, states have been required to record 28 days of no community transmission in order to transition from medium to low risk, but Mr McGowan refused to put an expiration date on the hard border.

"We haven't put a timeframe on our hard border with Queensland, but intend to monitor the situation over the coming days and weeks before making a decision," he said.
