The state government-controlled Perth Mint has thwarted a security breach by one of its contractors.
In a media release today, Gold Corporation, which controls the Mint, revealed the breach but added few other details.
“The Perth Mint can confirm that it has detected and contained a recent security breach, working in collaboration with the Western Australian Police Gold Stealing Detection Unit,” a spokesperson for the Mint said.
“Whilst details of the incident are not able to be disclosed due to the ongoing police investigation, the Mint can confirm that the security breach was undertaken by a contractor to the Mint, and involved a small amount of precious metal.
“The Mint can also confirm that no customers’ precious metals were affected.
“The Perth Mint’s sophisticated security measures identified the breach almost immediately and, along with the GSDU, confirmed it was an isolated incident and swiftly contained.
“The Perth Mint has built a sterling reputation for trust and security over its 117-year history, and will continue to invest in its security systems and people to ensure its customers can continue to have confidence that their precious metals are totally secure.”
