Boat facility need examined

THE Esperance Shire Council is undertaking a feasibility study to determine potential locations for a recreational boat facility in one of the coastal reserves it manages.

The nine potential locations identified are Israelite Bay, Thomas River, Kennedy Beach, Alexander Bay, Duke of Orleans Bay, Wylie Bay, Butty Head, Quagi Beach and Munglinup Beach.

The feasibility study, conducted by Sinclair Knight Merz, includes:

• A needs analysis to identify present and future needs and preferred locations;

• An environmental assessment to assess onshore and offshore environmental impacts; and

• An engineering assessment to assess costs, geotechnical, sites access and design issues.

Esperance has two existing boat launching facilities – one on the town’s foreshore and the other at Bandy Creek.
