Board Moves September 11, 2020

Following a board review of Cultural Heritage Management at Rio Tinto, and significant shareholder pressure on executive accountabilities for the destruction of the Juukan Gorge rock shelters, there have been several changes to the management structure. By mutual agreement, JS Jacques will step down as an executive director and chief executive but will remain in his role until the appointment of a successor or 31 March 2021, whichever is earlier. Chris Salisbury has stepped down as chief executive of iron ore, with Ivan Vella (managing director for rail, port & core services) replacing him on an interim basis. Simone Niven will step down as group executive of corporate relations at the end of December following a handover period. In order to enhance its board engagement in Australia, current non-executive director Simon McKeon has been appointed senior independent director.

After four years in the role, Lydia Fee has stepped down as joint company secretary of Wide Open Agriculture.
