Showing its commitment to the brand, Burswood Entertainment Complex has just finished major renovations to its new premium dining restaurant, Yú.

The restaurant, guided by the steady hand of chef de cuisine Pat Cheong, has proved a winner for Burswood as it looks to grow its restaurant offerings.

The major renovations have created almost an entirely new restaurant with striking features and a unique colour scheme.

A Feng Shui expert was even called in to approve the layout, furnishings, even the mirrors and the naming of the private dining rooms.

In Burswood’s bid to create Perth’s premier Cantonese restaurant it would seem that no expense has been spared.

What hasn’t changed is the skill and artistry that chef Cheong brings to his kitchen. Traditional meals such as Peking duck, will all find homes at Yú once again.

Don’t know your bakalar from your strukli? When was the last time you had some Badnji Kruh? If all of this is sounding a little confusing, perhaps it’s time to pay a visit to the 11th annual Croatian Food Festival.

From Friday June 2 to Sunday June 11, the Atrium Garden Restaurant at The Esplanade Hotel Fremantle will host this highly entertaining and seriously delectable event.

The event has been going for more than a decade, in no small part thanks to organiser and Croatian celebrity chef, Dennis Valcich.

The event is held in top hotels throughout Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth, as well as in Auckland, New Zealand.

In the past, up to 30 authentic Croatian dishes have been served, from desserts, entrees, salads and a variety of main dishes from all Croatian regions.

Cooking demonstrations and information courses are run in conjunction with the event, which aims to shed light on the local Croatian community and its rich traditions.

And if you really want to know, bakalar is dried cod soup.
