Embattled state opposition leader Matt Birney lost a narrow Liberal party-room vote in last Friday’s showdown with Paul Omodei. The Liberal party has emerged fractured as a result, with disappointed Birney supporters Norman Moore, Dan Sullivan and Rob Johnson on unsteady ground before an expected shadow cabinet shakeup by Mr Omodei. Deputy leader Troy Buswell caused more eyebrows to rise when it was revealed he allegedly jumped ship with a deciding vote to the Omodei camp, later reportedly apologising to Mr Birney for “misleading him". It appears Mr Birney sealed his own fate after an adverse finding from a parliamentary privileges committee over the altering of his parliamentary financial interests register.
