Birkbeck’s moves

COSMETICS king Stephen Birkbeck has joined the board of Indonesian pearling group Atlas Pacific, while it is understood he is in negotiations to sell his multi-award winning sandalwood oil company, Mt Romance. Sources confirmed discussions had been held but could not disclose the potential buyer. However, an offshore sale could be possible given the Albany-based Mt Romance is well connected in the global cosmetics market, supplying major players like International Flavours and Fragrances, Estee Lauder and Lancome/Givaudan. The business also sells its own beauty and natural therapy products as well as branching into own-brand wine.
