Senior business journalist Mark Beyer has been appointed editor of WA Business News, taking over the operational helm of the newspaper, website and Daily Business Alerts email service this week.
After four years with WA Business News, Mr Beyer will take over from Mark Pownall who, after almost seven years as editor, will assume a greater writing role in the newly created position of managing editor.
“This is an opportunity for both of us to take what we have learned in our respective roles and apply it in a new way to make WA Business News even more relevant to readers,” Mr Beyer said.
Mr Beyer takes charge of the day-to-day reporting of the 10-strong editorial team, and will remain a significant contributor in his own right.
The transition comes at a time of growth, both in the newspaper and the online aspects of news coverage, and will allow WA Business News to continue to expand the breadth and depth of its content.
Mr Beyer has 20 years’ experience in the media, including reporting for The Australian Financial Review and The West Australian’s business section. He has an early career background at the Commonwealth Treasury in Canberra.
Mr Pownall will expand his presence in the newspaper, including a weekly column and news features.
He will also remain closely involved in the development of WA Business News online strategy and the popular Book of Lists.
