Bell’s not yet rung

CHIMES Spa Retreat remains on the market for close to $4 million. Owners of the Denmark facility, Michelle and Kane Randle, put up the for sale sign in March but, as yet, it appears no deal has been struck. Atkinson at Jah Roc JAH Roc Galleries will host Shaun Atkinson’s first solo exhibition in Margaret River in 14 years next week. Mr Atkinson has been a long-time resident of Margaret River but has travelled and exhibited extensively during his career. Jah Roc designer Gary Bennett said the new exhibition, devoted to Margaret River landscapes, will be Mr Atkinson’s first solo showing in about 14 years. His last exhibition, ‘surfing icons’, was held by Margaret River Art Galleries in 1993. Mr Atkinson went on to exhibit for Greenhill Gallery and Form Gallery in Perth as well as exhibiting in Florence, Bali, and Dubai. His work features in Kerry Stokes’ private collection, Michael Chaney’s collection and the collections of the University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University and Curtin University. The exhibition commences on July 28 and will feature poetry written by renowned poet John Kinsella. Mr Kinsella will recite some new poems relating to Mr Atkinson’s work on the exhibition’s opening night. Mr Atkinson said the ‘Margaret River Series’ is an exploration of the effect light and dark have on the land and the sea in the region that surrounds his studio. Many of the new works are large panels but can be hung in varying configurations around a room and are connected by the horizon to create somewhat of a peripheral view. The exhibition closes on August 25. Gill to Air Mauritius AIR Mauritius has appointed Andrew Gill as state manager for its Western Australian operations. Mr Gill has more than 25 years’ experience in the tourism and aviation industries. He is a former chief executive officer of the Western Australian Tourism Industry Association.
