Leederville-based Bateman Architects has been appointed to lead the design of the second stage of Ridge View Secondary College in Baldivis.

The state government today unveiled plans for stage two construction of the secondary college, estimated to cost just under $30 million and increase the college’s student capacity to 1,450.

The Ridge View Secondary College project adds to Bateman’s portfolio of high school designs, which includes Bob Hawke College in Subiaco and Churchlands Senior High School.

Second stage work includes a number of state-of-the-art facilities, including new classrooms, a performing arts centre, music rooms, a dance studio, sports courts and extra parking.

Construction is set to commence in April 2021 and is expected to be completed by the start of the 2023 school year.

Premier Mark McGowan said that it was important for local schools to keep up with demand.

“Stage two will ensure Ridge View Secondary College can continue to provide an outstanding learning environment for local kids, while creating jobs during construction,” he said.

The $41.5 million college opened in early 2019 with 170 year seven enrolments to accommodate an increasing number of students in Perth’s developing suburbs.

Ridge View Secondary College now has 165 students enrolled in year seven and 185 in year eight.

The announcement forms part of the state government’s $450 million investment into creating and improving public schools in WA.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said the college was a popular choice for families in the area.

“Ridge View Secondary College is providing our local community with a first-class education experience and this second stage will only enhance the school and provide more benefit to students,” she said.
