The Nationals WA will retain the key regional development portfolio under a minor cabinet reshuffle triggered by the resignation of Brendon Grylls.
Mr Grylls, who shocked observers when he announced last month he would step down as leader of the Nationals and as a member of cabinet, had urged Premier Colin Barnett to ensure the regional development portfolio stayed with the new Nationals leader.
Mr Barnett today appeased his rural counterparts, announcing newly appointed Nationals leader Terry Redman would take on the portfolios of regional development and lands.
His deputy, Mia Davies, will take ministerial responsibility for water and forestry.
“Brendon Grylls has served the Liberal National government very well. He has been an excellent minister and made an enormous contribution to cabinet as well," Mr Barnett said.
"I thank him for his tireless work and wish him well for the future.
“I would like to congratulate Mia Davies on her elevation to the front bench and look forward to her contribution to cabinet."
Health Minister Kim Hames will add training and workforce development to his responsibilities, while Agriculture and Food Minister Ken Baston will take on the fisheries portfolio.
Nationals MPs Vince Catania and Colin Holt will serve as parliamentary secretaries to Ms Davies and Mr Redman, respectively.
The new ministers will be sworn in next week.
