Premier Colin Barnett's top bureaucrat Peter Conran will chair a steering committee including Richard Muirhead, Mark Barnaba, Sue Ash and Lisa Scaffidi in the lead up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Perth in October 2011.
Former Tourism WA chief executive Mr Muirhead has been appointed as state director CHOGM 2011 and will oversee planning of the event.
Executive chairman of Azure Capital, Mr Barnaba, will lead the state's involvement in the Commonwealth Business Forum.
Mr Barnaba said CHOGM and its associated events represented an extraordinary opportunity for business in Western Australia.
"Perth, like all the other leading cities in the Commonwealth, could bid for this type of event repeatedly and not get it. We need to take this unique opportunity and make sure we capitalise on it," Mr Barnaba said.
Ms Ash, the chief executive officer of the WA Council of Social Service will coordinate WA's contribution to the Commonwealth People's Forum.
Ms Ash said it was an honour to coordinate the Commonwealth People's Forum.
"WA has much to contribute to the Commonwealth's objective of nurturing and developing a more vibrant and active civil society throughout its 54 member countries," Ms Ash said.
Perth Lord Mayor, Ms Scaffidi, is also on the steering committee.
Premier Colin Barnett said the State Government would provide assistance to the Commonwealth in staging CHOGM as well as developing initiatives which promoted the state and helped local business and community participation.
