Mining contractor Barminco will continue providing its services to Western Areas’ Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll nickel mines under a $236 million contract extension.

Barminco has provided mining services to Western Areas' Spotted Quoll nickel mine since 2011.

Mining contractor Barminco will continue providing its services to Western Areas’ Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll nickel mines under a $236 million contract extension.

Perth-based Barminco said today it had been awarded a three-year extension to its contract for underground mining services and diamond drilling at Western Areas’ Forrestania nickel operations.

Barminco has been operating at Flying Fox since 2005 and at Spotted Quoll since it opened in 2011.

Western Areas and Barminco have a joint stable and successful history at the Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll operations, and it is a pleasure to be able to again extend this contract on the back of the hard work, persistence and commitment to operational improvements our team has delivered,” Barminco chief executive Peter Stokes said.

“We look forward to continuing to support Western Areas in delivering consistent and reliable production metrics, and maintaining an outstanding safety record at both sites.”

The extension follows news last month that Barminco had its $275 million mining contract at the Northern Star Resources’ majority-owned Kundana gold operation cut short by two years.

Barminco left the site on June 30, with the project’s joint venture partners keeping the mining work in-house.
