Bankwest has signalled its desire to expand its east coast presence, by signing a multi-year naming rights deal with the NSW government for a new 30,000-seat stadium in western Sydney.

The new venue – to be called Bankwest Stadium – is scheduled to open in mid-2019.

Located in Parramatta, the rectangular venue will replace the demolished Parramatta Stadium.

Bankwest managing director Rowan Munchenberg said the company was thrilled to support the western Sydney area.

“The Bankwest Stadium partnership will send a clear message to the people of western Sydney, and more broadly NSW, that we’ll continue to invest in products and services that meet their needs,” he said.

“Our vision is to deliver amazing customer experiences that matter, which is strongly aligned to the vision of this stadium to empower world-class fan experiences.

“Half of our customers live on the east coast and, when visiting this fantastic new stadium, they’ll enjoy some tangible benefits that we’ll unveil nearer to its opening.”

VenuesLive managing director Daryl Kerry said the new stadium would host a range of entertainment events.

Bankwest Stadium is going to be a venue for everyone in NSW to enjoy, bringing fans closer to the action than ever before and delivering a fantastic event experience,” he said.

“From 2019 there is going to be a diverse range of events and activities that will engage communities across NSW and drive visitation to Sydney.”

The news comes after Bankwest closed 29 branches along Australia's east coast in July, with more than half of those closures in NSW.

At the time the company blamed the closures on the increasing use of mobile banking.
