BHP iron ore exports slip in November

Iron ore exports from BHP Billiton's Pilbara operations have slipped for the month of November amid falling demand for the commodity from China.

According to the Port Hedland Port Authority website, BHP shipped close to 10.1 million tonnes during November, down from the previous month's 10.24 million.

The November exports is also the lowest shipment of iron from the miner since February this year, when 8.5 million tonnes were shipped.

The fall in iron ore exports follows comments made by BHP chief executive Marius Kloppers last month, where he said the miner had noted a decrease in Chinese steel production of 17 per cent year-on-year.

He said the decrease would eventually flow to everyone in the industry.

Mr Kloppers also added that the decrease in China had not made an impact on BHP's volumes.

A BHP spokesperson told WA Business News today the company did not provide comment on monthly shipments, rather it will provide commentary in its quarterly reports.
