BHP Billiton faces second strike

MINING giant BHP Billiton made an offer to workers at its Spence copper mine in Chile in a bid to avoid another damaging strike. Last month, protesting workers at BHP’s Escondida copper mine in Chile crippled production during a 25-day strike over pay. BHP Billiton said it had presented a "reasonable" offer to the union after workers sought a 7 per cent pay increase. The union will vote on September 15 on whether to accept the offer or proceed with a strike.
