Johannes (JJ) Van Der Walt has commenced as general manager, construction, with BGC Contracting’s Perth branch.
Mr Van Der Walt has more than 20 years’ experience in construction, mining and project management, and moves to the role from Georgiou Group, where he was construction manager.
He also previously worked as a project manager for Macmahon.
Mr Van Der Welt has significant experience in bridges, roadworks and major infrastructure projects and has a strong background in project delivery and providing clients safe and cost-effective solutions.
BGC's general manager East and West roles have been vacant for an extended period, with the appointment of Eugene du Plessis today announced for the eastern states.
Chief operating officer, construction, Mark Angove said the appointment of two experienced general managers to the construction division was reflective of BGC Contracting continuing its momentum in project delivery.
“BGC Contracting would like to sincerely welcome JJ and Eugene to the senior leadership team,” he said.
“We welcome the expertise, wealth of knowledge and their passion for the industry that they bring to our business.
“As another year starts, BGC Contracting continues to grow as one of Australia’s leading construction, contract mining and maintenance companies.”
Headquartered in Perth, BGC Contracting currently has a forward order book of approximately $2 billion, with approximately 2,000 employees nationwide, and an annual revenue nearing $1 billion year on year.
The company is part of the wider BGC Australia, which last year was put up for sale by the Buckeridge family.
Meanwhile, BDO Perth has announced two appointments today, as new partners Danny Olsen and Susan Oldmeadow-Hall take its national tally of partners up to 180.
Tax and business adviser Mr Olsen has been with the firm for eight years, providing tax, strategy, accounting and financial management advice to small and medium businesses and high-wealth clients.
Ms Oldmeadow-Hall joined BDO Perth in 2016, bringing over 20 years’ experience in technical accounting services, and previously working with EY.
BDO Perth managing partner Peter Toll said the appointments showed the increasing client demands across the business services and audit/assurance service lines.
“This year’s promotions reflect the excellent calibre of the people coming up through our firm,” he said.
“Both Danny and Susan have achieved this significant distinction for their ability to deliver exceptional client service, build our business, and develop the highest-performing teams.
“We look forward to their continued success at BDO.”
