Henderson-based shipbuilder Austal has won a $US12 million ($A15.6 million) contract to provide maintenance work on a littoral combat ship it is currently building for the US Navy.

Austal said its US-based division would provide design, planning and material support service for the combat ship, including program management, materials planning, engineering and design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling.

“The cost-plus award-fee order adds to Austal USA’s growing support business, which provides critical support to both the LCS and expeditionary fast transport fleets,” Austal said.

The company has delivered four of the 127-metre ships to the US Navy, with another seven under construction as part of its $US3.5 billion contract.

Austal shares were 0.3 per cent lower to $1.53 each at 10:45am.
