Austal wins $US11m navy deal

Henderson-based Austal has been awarded an $US11 million ($A14.1 million) cost-plus addition to its contract to build a Littoral Combat Ship for the US Navy.

Under the terms of the contract, the shipbuilder will provide planning, design and material support services for the USS Jackson.

"Efforts will include program management, advance planning, engineering, design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling," Austal said.

Work will be performed at Austal’s US shipyards in Mobile, Alabama and Fairfax, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by September 2016.

Austal has a US$3.5 billion contract from the US Navy to build 10 Littoral Combat Ships and a separate $US1.6 billion contract from the U.S Navy to build 10 103-metre Joint High Speed Vessels.

Austal shares were unchanged at $1.92 per share at 1:50pm.
