Ausdrill announces Sayers' replacement

Former CIMIC group executive Mark Norwell is set to take the helm at mining services company Ausdrill, replacing founder and chief executive Ron Sayers after 30 years in charge.

Mr Norwell will start his new role in September, having previously served as executive general manager – strategy and growth at Cimic mining services subsidiary, Thiess.

He has also held senior roles with Leighton Contractors, HWE Mining and Macmahon Holdings.

Mr Sayers will step down next month, with Ausdrill chief financial officer Theresa Mlikota named as interim chief executive.

Chairman Ian Cochrane said the company was delighted with the appointment.

“Mark has a strong understanding of the increasingly global nature of the mining services industry, having led operations, strategy and growth across several international jurisdictions over the course of his career,” he said.

“Mark’s strong experience and unique perspectives in developing businesses in new markets, coupled with an extremely high-quality, dedicated executive team, creates the opportunity for Ausdrill to embark on a new era.”

Mr Cochrane also thanked Mr Sayers for his service to Ausdrill.

“Ron successfully led the company for 30 years, after founding Ausdrill in 1987,” Mr Cochrane said.

“His achievement in creating and building the company to where it is today has been outstanding and we are grateful for his contribution and leadership.

“We wish him all the best for his retirement.”

Shares in Ausdrill were off 1.24 per cent at $1.84 each 1230pm AEDT.
