A joint venture between Perth companies Ausdrill and Barminco has been awarded a $US160 million ($220 million) mining services contract for Roxgold in West Africa.

The contract includes an extension of services at Zone 55 and works for Bagassi South at the company’s Yaramoko gold mine in Burkina Faso.

African Underground Mining Services is a 50:50 JV between Ausdrill and Barminco.

Under the contract, which has an initial 30-month term, the JV will supply all underground mining services at the two sites, including development and production activities, drilling and associated services.

Work is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2018.

The JV is expected to employ about 300 people, including 225 Burkinabe employees.

“We are delighted to have secured this work and look forward to extending our important, highly valued relationship with Roxgold on their flagship project,” AUMS chief operating officer Blair Sessions said.

Shares in Ausdrill finished down 2.3 per cent at $1.70 each today.
