A joint venture between AusGroup and Japanese-based Meisei Industrial has won a $197 million subcontract for industrial work at Inpex’s Ichthys liquefied natural gas project near Darwin.

The scope of the work for subcontract, awarded by lead contractor JKC Australia LNG, involves painting, surface protection, fireproofing and insulation work on the onshore LNG facilities at Ichthys.

It adds to a $174 million contract JKC awarded to AusGroup in March for scaffolding work at the project.

AusGroup chief executive officer Stuart Kenny said the company had previously worked with Meisei on a $100 million contract for an LNG train in Western Australia.

“This contract underpins AusGroup’s progress towards strengthening its order book as an established service provider to offer a range of skills to the oil and gas sector in an otherwise challenging and changing market,” Mr Kenney said.

“The contract and the proposed acquisition of Ezion Offshore Logistics Hub and Teras Australia will enable AusGroup to integrate marine base support and secure further opportunities in the burgeoning oil and gas sector in the Northern Australia region.”

Work is expected to begin in March next year and take 22 months to complete.

AusGroup said now has a $480 million order book.
