Accor has announced that Perth’s first Art Series hotel, set to open in October, will be named after street artist Matt Adnate.
The Adnate is a $90 million, 250-room hotel developed by George Atzemis, who purchased the site at 900 Hay Street for nearly $10 million in 2013.
Mantra was selected as the hotel’s operator in 2016, until Accor acquired the company for $1.2 billion last year.
The interior of the hotel will feature two original canvases and up to 650 reproductions of 30 of Mr Adnate’s works, as well as a staircase mural
The exterior will feature a 27-storey mural on the west-facing side of the hotel, which Accor said would feature faces representing the cultural history and community of Perth.
There will also be a laneway mural spanning more than 50 metres and featuring multiple portraits from Mr Adnate in collaboration with a local indigenous artist.
Mr Adnate said he saw this hotel as a canvas to tell a story about Perth’s cultural and community connection.
“What excites me most about this collaboration with Art Series is the opportunity to capture the stories and emotions of my subjects and to share them with a new audience in the west,” he said.
Accor Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath said The Adnate was destined to become an iconic landmark in Perth’s CBD.
“This hotel heralds the arrival of the Art Series brand in Western Australia and demonstrates our commitment to growing this iconic Australian hotel brand – Australia’s only boutique hotel brand creating art inspired experiences for guests.”
Art Series Hotels launched in 2009, and its portfolio includes five hotels in Melbourne, one in Adelaide and one in Brisbane.
