Journalist, art curator and entrepreneur Fiona Argyle overcame two councillors to be elected mayor of Nedlands on Friday night.
Ms Argyle, who ran as an independent candidate for the seat of Nedlands at the March state election, claimed 43.4 per cent of the vote against councillor Noel Youngman, who earned 32.5 per cent, and deputy mayor Leo McManus, who earned 24.1 per cent.
Her campaign literature listed smart fiscal management, strong community representation, planning, sustainability, local business activation, law and order and the arts as major issues she will tackle as mayor.
She will serve out the remainder of Cilla De Lacy's unexpired term before a regularly scheduled election is held in October 2023.
Ms De Lacy resigned as mayor in February.
