Architect in the swim

PERTH-based Donovan Payne Architects has been awarded an $18 million contract to design the Sydney 2000 Olympics water polo pool complex — the only WA architect to be involved in the project.

Working in conjunction with Sydney practice, Peddle Thorp and Walker, Donovan Payne will be designing the Olympic standard 10-lane 50 metre pool with a moveable boom.

The contract also includes a large recreational wave pool, a program pool for hydrotherapy and swimming lessons, and a two-court sports centre for a wide variety of indoor sports.

The firm expects to have the project completed by April 2000.
