Our weekly appointments wrap includes Mara Barone, Simon Durack, Laura Coles, Jon Bennett and Kate Pass. 

Mara Barone has been appointed as a judge of the District Court of Western Australia. Ms Barone has almost two decades’ of advocacy experience in criminal law, working at Legal Aid and the Aboriginal Legal Service before establishing her own legal practice. She joined the independent bar in 2018 as a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers and was appointed as senior counsel later that year.

The WA Youth Jazz Orchestra has made Simon Durack board chair. Mr Durack is the executive chair at MinRex Resources, serves on the school council at Servite College and has been on the WAYJO board since 2019. WAYJO board member and treasurer Laura Coles has been appointed deputy chair. Ms Coles is a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers. The board also welcomed parent of a WAYJO member Jon Bennett and musician Kate Pass as board members.
